On November 10th 1977, Music From Japan presented pieces that were written in the ‘70s with a special focus on forward thinking music. At the same time, Mr. Miura emphasized that he chose pieces that were deeply rooted in the traditions of Japan, and pointed out that a possible reason for the prevalence of flute and percussion in the pieces presented had to do with the prominence of their ancient counterparts in traditional Japanese repertoire. The list of composers featured in the concert was a mixture of well-established composers and new names: pieces by Jo Kondo, Yoshio Hachimura, Yasuo Sueyoshi, Katsuhiro Tsubonoh, Teizo Matsumura, and Hinoharu Matsumoto were performed by a group of leading American musicians in various configurations.
